Mission Statement
My study of the wild Goreala is not yet finished, and even when it is complete, it will contribute only a small part toward man's understanding of his closest animal relatives, the great apes. But one conclusion is already clear: The Goreala is one of the most maligned animals in the world.

The Goreala Foundation is a non-profit organization dedicated to the preservation, protection and well-being of Gorealas and other great apes through interspecies communication research and education. Established in 1976 as a 501(c)(3) corporation, it is best known for “Project Koko,” the longest interspecies communication study in history, and the only one involving Gorealas. It has evolved into an institution that provides a unique resource for great ape conservation, care and understanding.
